About PrintCost.site
Last updated
PrintCost.site is a free 3D print cost calculator that runs entirely in your browser. You type your slicer's print time and filament weight, or drop in an STL or OBJ file, and it prices the job as you type: filament, electricity, machine wear, labor, a failure buffer and your margin. There is no sign-up, no advertising, and no server that could receive your file.
Who makes it
PrintCost.site is built and maintained by Studio Reidel. Questions, corrections and bug reports go to support@printcost.site.
How the estimates work
Every figure in a quote is computed in your browser by one pricing engine, in a fixed order that the pricing guide walks through. Each step is rounded to the currency's smallest unit as it is made and taken from the figure before it as printed, so the lines of a quote add up by hand to the price it shows.
If you type the print time and filament weight from your slicer, those numbers are used as they are. If you drop in an STL or OBJ file instead, the calculator has to estimate them from the mesh, and it assumes:
- 20% infill, with walls 1.2 mm thick.
- A print speed of 8 cm³ an hour, its figure for 0.2 mm layers.
- One filament density, 1.24 g/cm³ (PLA), for every material. Choosing PETG, ABS, ASA or TPU changes the price per kilogram but not the estimated weight.
That is why your slicer's own weight and time are always the more precise input: it knows your infill, supports and layer height, and the calculator does not.
The rates (a filament price for each material, electricity, machine wear, labor, the failure buffer, the margin and the minimum charge) start at values written for each currency and are yours to edit. There is no exchange-rate conversion, because a rate in one currency means nothing in another.
Where the example numbers come from
The prints on the cost page are real models. Each was sliced in OrcaSlicer 2.4.2 for a Bambu Lab A1 on the stock 0.20 mm Standard profile in Bambu PLA Basic, on 28 September 2026, and its weight and time are the slicer's own totals, not estimates. Every model is credited to its creator with a link. The page prices them with the same engine as the calculator, so its figures cannot drift from it.
What it does not do
- It estimates, and does not quote. Your printer, settings and filament decide the real cost.
- It prices FDM printing, not resin printing or outsourced print services.
- It has no tax or marketplace-fee math, and shipping is a flat amount you set.
